Next Week Will Suck

Tomorrow is the start of a pretty scary week for Calvin. I have my first meeting with the Diabetic Association to learn all about how to best change my lifestyle so I can avoid all the negative complications that accompany Diabetes.

They have to interview me so that they can prepare a special diet for me to follow for at least the first couple of months. They are going to show me how to use my blood meter - something that makes everything real as it's ever going to be. I can't run from this anymore.

I already have tingling in my figures that could be related to my diagnosis or could be from carpal tunnel - I do type an awful lot. I am looking forward to a radical change in diet if it takes the numbness from my fingers. I can't loose my fingers or my eyesight. They are my most valuable body parts without which I will no longer be unable to fully communicate to the world.

I will beat this because I tend to be a pain in the ass when it comes dealing with medical professionals. I do my research and demand alot from my caregivers. I won't stop until my physical efforts put me into a state where I am so fit that I will not have to worry about diabetes anymore.

Besides, I want to love a quality woman one day and she will not want me unless I can defeat these broken parts I carry around with me daily.

my best to you- i made some radical lifestyle changes recently, and while it wasn't easy, it was worth it. it didn't make all my problems go away, but it will benefit me in the long run. it will benefit you as well.

My dad was diagnosed with Type 2 a few years ago and yes, the first few months really suck but once you figure out how your body works its really not so bad. You'll do just fine. And honestly, if you blog about it, the devotees of the Cave of Cool will support you whole heartedly.

My mom had the dietician talk with her and learned to moniter her blood. She's 83 and is doing fine. I know you can do it too. Nothing to fear.

It's surprising what we can learn to deal with. I've lived with atrial fibrillation (runaway irregular heartbeat) for over twenty years, and while there are some things I shouldn't do, I've learned that I can still live a very full life within those boundaries. Sometimes it just means you have to live differently, not necessarily live less.

Good on you Cal. You're facing this but doing it with just the right amount of realism, determinism and positivity. Keep it up.

And remember, quality women will love you no matter how many broken parts you have.
